Engagement Etiquette

St. John’s University is a Catholic university. We embrace the Judeo-Christian ideals of respect for the rights and dignity of every person and each individual’s responsibility for the world in which we live. We commit ourselves to create a climate patterned on the life and teaching of Jesus Christ as embodied in the traditions and practices of the Roman Catholic Church. Our community, which comprises members of many faiths, strives for an openness that is “wholly directed to all that is true, all that deserves respect, all that is honest, pure, admirable, decent, virtuous, or worthy of praise” (Philippians 4:8). Thus, the University is a place where the Church reflects upon itself and the world as it engages in dialogue with other religious traditions. Adopted from University Mission Statement.

A dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion is at the heart of our mission. As a Catholic and Vincentian university, St. John’s is committed to institutionalizing practices of inclusive excellence to ensure that we welcome and celebrate the intrinsic worth of all members of our community. Adopted from University Mission Statement.

The Division of Student Success is committed to fostering a welcoming and inclusive community by hosting innovative and engaging experiences for the entire St. John’s community. As we continue to explore and create engagement opportunities, it is our expectation that all students and patrons who participate in these initiatives familiarize themselves with the Engagement Etiquette guidelines.
